This mod gives you four very basic needs: Hunger, thirst, sleep an shelter. Food and water in your inventory will be consumed automatically, prioritizing the cheapest ingredients, and shelter simply equals the time you need to spend indoors.

What all this does is it encourages a more realistic playstyle. You will want to carry food and water, sleep indoors and at night, as well as not go outside in bad weather.

Playing the Plugin:

When you start the game or load the plugin your journal will be updated with a quest called Basic Needs. You can check this quest at any time to learn how much food/water/sleep/shelter you need. (You have to look at the quest in the quest tab and not at the initial entry in your journal, since that entry will not update when your needs change.)

-----FOOD----------------------------------------

Food ingredients are already everywhere in the game, so they are easy to find.

To survive you need to eat a total of 1.0 weight of food per day. If you go 10 days without food starvation sets in and your maximum fatigue will be reduced by 20 for each day and you will die after starvation has reduced your fatigue by 400 points.

Werewolves don't need to eat, since they go out and eat people every night and vampires don't need to eat either since they drink blood instead.

-----WATER---------------------------------------

To get water you need a bucket. Place the bucket on the ground and activate it and you can use it to fetch water if you are outside in a town or a settlement that presumably has a well somewhere. Fetching water will advance in game time by 30 minutes, which is 1 minute in real time.

You need to drink 1.0 weight of water each day to survive. After 3 days without water dehydration sets in and and your maximum fatigue will be reduced by 40 for each day and you will die after dehydration has reduced your fatigue by 400 points.

Vampires don't need to drink since they drink blood instead.

You can also conjure water through magic using a book called Water Conjuration. This book can be bought from some enchanters and some priests. The chance of success equals your conjuration skill and the time it takes is reduced by 1 hour per 10 skill you have, starting at 10 hours, so with 60 skill it would take 4 hours and at 100 skill it would take 1. Also if you conjure water outside the time it takes is cut in half, with a minimum of 1 hour.

-----SLEEP---------------------------------------

Sleeping can be done anywhere simply by resting.

You need to sleep 7 hours per day to survive. After 3 days without sleep sleep deprivation sets in and and your maximum fatigue will be reduced by 40 for each day and you will die after it has reduced your fatigue by 400 points.

Vampires don't need to sleep since they can't.

If you have the Extra-Comfy Pillow in your inventory the effectiveness of your resting increases by 50%, so every hour of rest counts as 1.5 hours. (Due to a bug in the game, the quest for the pillow can become impossible to complete, but this is fixed in the Morrowind Patch Project.)

-----SHELTER-------------------------------------

Shelter is gained simply by staying indoors.

How shelter works is a little more complicated than food/water/sleep. Every hour you stay outside in bad weather the time you need to spend inside will increase, more so at night. Exposure sets in after a very long time without shelter but it probably won't ever kill you, since it works so slow, unless your fatigue is low and you become too weak to move.

How much shelter you need in different weathers also depend on your frost/fire resistance. Frost resistance effect rain/snow and fire resistance effects ash storms. Weakness to frost/fire does nothing since there is really no good way to script that.

Vampires don't need shelter since they prefer bad weather anyway and werewolves don't need shelter either since all the werewolves in game run around naked in the snow.

For people who have modded exterior houses but want to use them as shelter anyway they can use a console command to give themself an item that can be used to toggle shelter on and off. (More details can be found under Console Commands)
